We recently had a great time visiting park ranger, Beckie Mims, at Naval Live Oaks (Gulf Islands National Seashore) for a seining camp for kids. The kids used a seine net and other nets to collect and learn about a variety of sea life and grasses including pin fish, pipe fish, blue crabs, and turtle grass. They even collected a water sample for viewing under a microscope. Everything was kept alive and released afterwards. Each person received a junior park ranger badge. Check out some photos from the camp! Be sure to sign up for the next one! Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the nature trail and museum, too!
Monday, July 29th, 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m.
Seine nets provided. Children must wear swimsuit and sunscreen.
Reservations are required. Call Beckie Mims at (850) 934-2631
