We recently packed the cooler and headed out to Fort Pickens to grill some burgers and to enjoy the outdoors. We went to Battery Worth which is located on Pensacola Bay. The park has beach access, picnic tables with BBQ grills, a pavilion, and bathroom facilities.
Battery Worth is a nice getaway from the crowds on Pensacola Beach. This is also a great place to view the natural settings of the beach and it’s wildlife. The kids will have fun following around the ghost crabs and watching the beach mice as well as paddling around in the water for an aerial view of sea life. The family can also enjoy the nice view from the lookout and learn a bit about the history of the fort. On certain Friday evenings, the Escambia Amateur Astronomers Association sets up telescopes at Battery Worth for stargazing.

These are great shots. Last time we were at Battery Worth we saw the mother osprey directly behind the first picnic area on the right. The babies have gotten big. Thanks for sharing.

Those are great photos! How long did it take to get the ghost crab shot? They’re like unicorns – when you’re ready for them they hide and when the camera is nowhere in sight there they are.
The last time we were there we saw a bride having her portrait pictures taken. She posed inside the fort and the shots were beautiful! Between the architecture and the bride herself they came up with some really pretty pictures.
