Blackwater River Family Kayak Trip

Looking for a great place to kayak with your family? We can help! This Blackwater River kayak trip is a short run that’s perfect for the family. It’s recommended you bring two cars… unless you want a long walk.

  • Park one car at the Blackwater River State Park on Deaton Bridge Road ($4.00 parking)
  • Drive other car north and take a right at street after the Blackwater River campground. (Small one lane boat landing road)
  • Option 1
Follow road to boat launch. Put in at launch. This is your shortest run.
  • Option 2
Take the dirt road (when the paved road turns south) to the last point listed on the map. Grassy parking area and easy river access.
The second option is about 1.85 miles long.
  • Option 3
Take service road SF J40 to Blackwater River Access Point 5 – Johnson’s Float Launch –

From Milton, Take US 90 East 10 miles to Deaton Bridge Road. Turn north and continue 2.7 miles to Forest Road J40 on right. Turn right and follow J40 2 miles to launch point, veering left at the J46 road junction. This is an improved gravel road with one steep section that may be challenging for small vehicles.
