Grab your gear and make a weekend at Bear Lake Recreation Area for a fun weekend of camping, biking, hiking and kayaking.
Bear Lake Recreation Area is one of the many parks located in Blackwater River State Forest. If you are looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors in northwest Florida take a trip to Bear Lake. The park includes a 107-acre man-made lake that’s stocked with Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish (shellcracker), Black Crappie, Hybrid Striped Bass, and Channel Catfish.
Hiking and Biking at Bear Lake
Bear Lake Recreation great trails to hike or bike on. There is a 4-mile trail for hiking around the lake. Hikers will also enjoy hiking the Sweetwater Trail that leads to Krul Recreation Area or the Jackson Red Group Trial.
For off-road biking, the park includes a 6-mile trail that circles Bear Lake.
Small Boats, Kayaks, and Canoeing
The park has a dual-launch concrete boat ramp and a fishing pier. The lake is great for kayaks, canoes and small boats; however, only electric trolling motors are allow.
Camping at Bear Lake
The campground includes both electric and non-electric campsites. The sites are on a first-come, first-served basis.
No swimming is allowed at Bear Lake. For swimming see nearby Krul Lake.
A limited number of small jon-boats and canoes are available to rent from DOF for use on the lake. Information regarding these rentals can be obtained by calling 850-957-6140.
