2nd Annual Plein Air Paint Out

Come on out to paint or to watch painters in action on October 27, 2012, in the 2nd Annual Plein Air Paint Out. Painters, spectators, and collectors are all encouraged to attend. Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation, The Dragonfly Gallery and the Bagdad Village Preservation Association will be sponsoring the second Plein Air Paint Out in Bagdad, Florida.

Plein Air Painting is landscape painting that is done outside in the open air.  This style became popular during the impressionist era with artists such as Monet, Pissaro, and Renoir. Plein air painting is characterized by less detail and the artist’s desire to capture a fleeting moment. Given the need to work quickly in order to capture the moment’s light, plein air landscapes are typically spontaneous, fresh and bold in feeling and look.

The village of Bagdad offers artists scenic views of the Blackwater River, the bay, historic homes, and historic buildings that are surrounded by live oak trees and Spanish moss.

Painters and pastel artists are encouraged to participate in the event.  Participants will sign in and begin painting at 8:30 am.  All painting will stop at 12:00 noon.  Lunch will be provided to participants. A reception will follow the paint out at the Dragonfly Gallery in Milton at 2:00 p.m. The show will be judged and prizes will be awarded. The gallery will display all of the participating artist’s paintings that were created at the paint out.  Purchases can be made at that time.  Artwork will be on display from October 27nd to November 16th.
